Sometimes it's hard to see through the darkness, distinguish the signal from the noise, or find the positive in negative situations. Life, as joyous as it can be, can also be a struggle. A struggle to find happiness, to find peace, to pick up the pieces from a broken relationship, to start over again, to start something new, to have faith in something bigger than ourselves, to have faith in ourselves and our abilities, etc..
We have to remind ourselves that although the world feels like it's spinning a million miles an hour (it is spinning, but not that fast..) and it can feel overwhelming, all we need to do to pull ourselves out of a downward spiral is to look up. Look up to the sky. Look up to the stars. The simple act of looking up can do so many wonderful things. It first and foremost stretches our neck muscles. It takes us away from social media and the devices we are constantly looking down at. It's a metaphor for creating confidence in ourselves. It's no reason why the saying is, 'Hold your head up high'. Yes, it's about being confident, but it's also a literal holding your head up high...by looking up.
Another thing we use as a reminder is that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. The light is in the tunnel, and we have it inside of us at all times. It's just a matter of being able to tap into it or not. Let's call to mind the song, 'This Little Light of Mine':
This Little Light of Mine, I'm going to let it shine
This Little Light of Mine, I'm going to let it shine
This Little Light of Mine, I'm going to let it shine
let it shine, let it shine, let it shine
It's so simple! The light is inside of us, and looking up can help us to re-discover it and shine it on the world around us.
