The Early Bird Gets the Worm

Remember the quote, 'the early bird gets the worm'? Of course, this is a metaphor for waking up early to get a head start on the day. For many years, we didn't like to wake up early. When it's dark and cold outside, it's so easy to just snuggle up even more under the covers and stay warm in your nice cozy bed. To get out of it not only requires work, but putting yourself out there into the 'cold'. Sometimes the world can seem so cold, so foreign to us, like it's not on our side. Other times, we feel aligned with the world, or better yet, the universe, and everything seems to make sense and flow for us.

One way we've found comfort in waking up early is to know we are putting ourselves in a position to succeed for the rest of the day. In the morning before the sun comes up and the house starts to get crazy with kids running around, we have this time to reflect upon what we are grateful for, do some praying/meditation, and even do some writing like we are doing right now. It helps get out whatever is in our head before the day gets away from us. For us, it's been a healthy outlet to start our brains and thinking outside of the box right away. In doing all of these things, we feel a sense of accomplishment, so they put us in a good positive mental mindset right out of the gate.

What are you doing to set yourself up for success today? It might be something as simple as reading a line of scripture, writing a note to a spouse, going out on a walk/run for some fresh air. There are many things we can do that may be sitting right under our noses. We just have to have the awareness to 'wake up and smell the roses', so to speak, because, 'the early bird gets the worm'.
