Song on the Spot with SKIT

We are excited to share about this neat collaboration with SKIT (Special Kinds of Improvisational Theater) that started today, 'Song on the Spot'. Yes, it sounds like a silly play on words with 'Johnny on the Spot', and no, it is not meant to be a potty humor program. The idea is to bring people together in a unique way, using our collective creativity to brainstorm words, phrases, and lyrics to eventually turn them into a song...and multiple songs over time. With the help of singer/songwriter, Lucy Wood, and our Founder/CEO, Jim Gaven (who is also a songwriter), guiding the journey along the way, the students we had involved in the class today were not only in-the-moment, but encouraging to each other as well. We ended up walking away from the hour and a half session with a boat load of ideas as well as half of of a finalized chorus (with music to boot)!

The goal is to provide a space for those with developmental disabilities (and beyond) to try something out they never thought they could or have a chance to do--write a song. It's not an easy thing to do by any stretch of the imagination, otherwise everyone in the world would not only be doing it, but also successful at it. The short story is that we agree on a topic, think of words and phrases about said topic, work on rhymes and a meter (tempo) to go along with said words, organize the words into some working order, and then bring music and melody into the mix. This could mean playing guitar, piano, or ukulele as a main instrument to tie the words together in a musical way. Of course, there is more to it, but this is the simple way to explain it.

We are very much looking forward to the next session, and are still taking in students (we can max out at 12, and we currently have 5). Feel free to reach out to us if interested as we would love to have you.

P.S. Our 6 course Educational Meal, if you will, is available for 50% off yet again! Udemy allows creators to set 3 coupons a month that last 5 days each, so we've been doing our best to stay on top of it and create all 3 spanning half of every month. This is the second one this month.  **Use the Code MRJIMMAY at any of the links below to get 50% off each course until 5/17**
