Tap to the Tempo Tuesday

It's Tuesday! When we started in the human services field over 10 years ago, we decided it would be best to create a daily curriculum through the use of alliterative themes. Little did we know that we were really onto something with this. Not only did it create an opportunity for individuals with developmental disabilities to express themselves creating through music, but the thematic nature of each day made it fun and something worthwhile to look forward to. Tuesday was also 'Tap to the Tempo' Tuesday...my favorite day. And, it wasn't just my favorite day, but many other people we served and supported at this one particular day program. I mean, whose favorite day is a Tuesday? This is how we know for sure, without a doubt, that we had something unique and special to offer people in terms of music expression and exploration, and most certainly in the area of underserved populations.

On this day, we did anything and everything revolved around playing a percussion instrument as it pertains to keeping rhythm. We would play along to songs using maracas, bongos, egg shakers, tambourines, and entire drum sets. We would work on just using our hands and feet to keep rhythm. It was a loud and thunderous day. The place was alive!

That was 10 and a half years ago at this point. We can't believe how much time has passed since then, and how much growth we've had in that time. As we reflect upon the start of our musical journey in the human services field using music to improve the quality of life, we can't help but say, 'thank you' to all those who gave us the opportunity to pursue this meaningful endeavor of making a difference. You know who you are, so we are not going to play the 'name dropping' game.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. And, remember, let's rock and roll with our percussion instruments not just on Tuesday, but everyday of the week. Everyday is a beautiful day to create something awesome with music.
