Happy Tap to the Tempo Tuesday. In light of today's alliterative musical idea, here is another excerpt from the upcoming book, 'The Daily Bridge: 365 More Meditations on Music'. We are hoping to have this out by the end of summer.
“There is no music unless the drum and the drummer are one."
-E. E. Cummings
Amazing. I love the sentiment behind this quote. E.E. is acknowledging that in order for real music to be created, the drum itself and the person playing the drums (the drummer) have to become ‘one’. This has been mentioned before on other days in other books, but this is a unique way of putting it. There is the old saying, ‘he/she marches to the beat of their own drum’. Well, in order to march to that beat, you first have to become the beat so you can then play it for yourself and the rest of the world to enjoy. Internalization, internalization, internalization. Then, comes enjoyment, enjoyment, and enjoyment!
Have a great day and be sure to 'march to the beat of your own drum' today and every day.
