If this isn't the best goal one can have as a musician, then I don't know what it is. This is one of the few things we have control over as a vocalist--to sing from the heart with passion and conviction. We don't have control over who is going to enjoy our singing or not. We have no idea how many people will show up, or if anyone will show up at all, to a concert. We have no idea how many people or if anyone will buy our record. We have no idea if the band is going to play the song in perfect time and in perfect key. The list goes on and on over what we don't have control over. But, singing from the heart--this is the one variable we have in our midst to take ahold of and do it to our fullest potential, at our best, if you will.
Plus, I'm a firm believer that if you 'sing from the heart', many, if not all, of the out of control variables detailed above will take care of themselves in a positive light. People will resonate with someone who sings from the heart as it is a very obvious thing to see. In a sense, it is akin to the saying, 'if you build it, they will come'. Instead it's, 'If you sing from the heart, people will listen.'
