It most certainly is one preparation for heaven. I've read articles and stories from scholars, philosophers, theologians, and lay-people who express this kind of sentiment as far as what heaven might be like. The main consensus is that we could be praising God through singing forever. To be honest, I couldn't think of a better way to spend eternity. It only makes sense.
1. If singing in Church means you are praising God twice (once through the lyrics/words in the song and another by singing the lyrics/words of the song), then this is a great indication of what Heaven might be like. And, the coolest thing is we get to experience a taste of it here on Earth.
2. The bible speaks of choirs of angels already in Heaven, so there are already great songs being sung! We can all just add to the harmonies and sing loud and proud for God and all to hear when we make our way there.
