"The more technology we introduce into society, the more people will aggregate, will want to be with other people: movies, rock concerts, shopping."
-John Naisbitt
I couldn't agree more, John. Even though it's amazing to have so much information at your fingertips with the advent of smartphones, it simultaneously puts us in our own little world away from everyone else. We have become engrossed, dare I say, addicted to these devices, that we take them with us everywhere we go. And, we feel as if we can't live without them, because we want to be in the know at all times with whatever is happening in the world. And, although this is a great thing to be informed, I believe we are too informed, and not always present in what is happening right in front of us in real-time. Some people use technology to keep in touch with family members and friends that live on the opposite side of the world. Great! This is awesome. Some people use it as a means of looking something up when you can't pull the answer off the top of your head. Great, another beautiful thing. However, the more we depend on these devices, the less we depend on and trust in each other. We need to get back to a time where smartphones and electronic devices (all forms of technology) didn't exist or at least when we weren't so reliant on them. Concerts most definitely bring us into the present moment into what is happening in real-time right in front of us more than anything else. Of course, you have plays/musicals/orchestral performances and sporting events to do this as well, but there's nothing like a concert that has us wanting to put our hands up and put our phones down.
