Here we are...the last day of the first month of the year, January. We can't believe we're already at the end of it. A lot of goodness has come into our lives this past month, so much so that we are very much excited for next month.
Do you know where the word comes from or what it means? If not, it's OK. Neither did we until today.
The name January comes from Janus, a Roman figure who stood for beginnings and transitions, who is also known for being the protector of gates and doorways. So, it makes perfect sense that January symbolizes the doorway into the new year.
In traditional mythology, Janus is depicted with two faces, one looking into the past, the other with the ability to see into the future. What an ability!
It's a shame there aren't many songs with the name January in them as it would be a great jumping off point for a song idea. Three that come to mind are:
1. January Friend by the Goo Goo Dolls
2. June in January by Dean Martin
3. January by Elton John.
For some extra listening material, feel free to check out a song our Founder/CEO wrote called, 'January Fever' or https://jimgaven.bandcamp.com/track/january-fever. The song is a metaphor for anything happening on any given day and the idea that life is exactly that. Written on a day in January when it was over 60 degrees, he was inspired to capture the moment in a song.
Have a great rest of the day and see you in February, the month of Love!
