Song on the Spot

Have you ever created something out of nothing? We are sure the answer to this question is a resounding, 'yes'. How do we know this? Because aytime you pick up a pen and paper and write something down, whether it be a grocery shopping list or a random to-do-list for household projects, you are creating something out of nothing. A thought pops in your head, you write it down, and then you have a list you are looking to take action on.

This same idea can be applied to songwriting. Over the years, we have had the pleasure of working with those who have developmental disabilities, sick children, and those experiencing drug/alcohol addiction (and much more) who inspire us in so many ways. They inspire us by their willingness and strength to take on whatever obstacle or mountain they have to climb every day, and do their best to go for it. In a sense, they are taking up their 'cross', carrying it, and showing themselves, as well as others, that it is OK to become stronger and a better version of ourselves. At times in life, we might we feel we aren't worthy or don't deserve the things or people in our lives. We're here to tell you that you are worthy, and that you do deserve it. But, we digress.

The whole reason for this post was to share an exciting new collaboration with SKIT (Special Kind of Improvisational Theater), an organization who exists to provide acting/drama/improvisational workshops and programs for those in a time of need. Jody Wood, the Founder/CEO, is an established actor in his own right, having been in various TV shows and commercials in the past. Our Founder/CEO, Jim Gaven, and he hit it off instantly a couple years ago as they started their journey of running businesses in the human services field around the same time. It was only a matter of time before Key of Awesome Music and SKIT teamed up on a project. This project is called, 'Song on the Spot'. Think of it like a cross between improvisational acting and songwriting. Songwriting in music has a lot to do with improvisation in acting. How, you may ask? Well, you have to make something out of nothing, taking an idea that comes to mind and elaborating on it in such a way that makes sense concept-wise, music-wise (melody and rhythm), and flow-wise. We believe everyone has this ability to write a song and/or act, so we are opening this up to anyone and everyone who would like to write a song together using our unique approach.

With all that said, we are very much looking forward to our first collaboration with 'Song on the Spot' on March 5th at 3pm on Zoom. For more information and to register for this program in advance, please go here:
