Totally Tubular Tuesday/Happy Mardi Gras

Alliteration--a fun, silly, and educational literary device.

If you've noticed, we use this device in some of our subject lines, descriptions of days on Facebook Live videos, and even through our A-Z children's books on Lulu.

Akin to tongue twisters--'Sally Sells Seashells by the Seashore' or 'Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers', alliterations can help us pronounce and articulate words as we learn how to speak as children. They really make us think about what we are saying before we actually say it. And, with alliterations, it's thinking about what we are saying before we say a string of words with the same first letter in them.

In addition to that, alliterations can provide us with a creative way to find adjectives and descriptors we wouldn't otherwise use in every day conversation which is great for practicing outside of the box thinking--'Have a Super Sensational Spectacular Special Soulful Sunday' for instance. Whew!!! That's a mouthful.

We use an alliteration for warming up our voices before we start singing songs, 'Mommy made me mash my M&M's'. This is a fun way to sing out words with the same letter at the beginning, and we do it up 5 notes and down 4 through 3 octaves, something to the effect of C-D-E-F-G-F-E-D-C, as a starting point.

So, the next time you are stuck on an idea or a thought, try using this literary device to create your way out of it. You never know what totally tubulur terrfic triumphant thing can come out of it.

Here's to a dazzling day and a wonderful week.

P.S. Happy Mardi Gras!!!
