Happy President's Day

Happy President's Day! Yes, we still celebrate this day in honor of all the President's of the U.S.A. and their service in leading our country as Commander-in-Chief. However, the initial reason for this day was to commemorate none other than George Washington (later we threw in Abraham Lincoln for good measure).

What a great leader and overall amazing human being he was! From leading us through a victory in the Revolutionary War to helping start our country to becoming our first president, he exemplified the meaning of true leadership and humility. An avid practicer of Stoicism, he willing put himself in less-than-ideal situations, showed bravery and courage, and had the wherewithall to make hard decisions in real-time up against the gun, pun intended.

Not only did he do all of this, but he also stepped down as President after 4 years even though the public wanted him to stay on as President. Why? Because he had the foresight to know that if he continued, it would be too appealing to continue for as long as he lived, and that would create many problems. For one, the likelihood of developing an unhealthy ego was high. Two, he didn't want the U.S.A. to turn into a dictatorship or monarchy, which is a main reason why the U.S.A. broke away from Great Britain in the first place. And, thirdly, he knew that by leaving the presidency willingly, it would force other people to step up to take the reigns. This would create healthy competition among his peers for new and creative ideas to better serve the general public as a way to 'change with the times'. Brilliant on so many levels.

We thank you time and time again, Mr. Washington (and Abraham Lincoln as well) on this President's Day.
