Working for the Weekend or Working Through the Weekend

Here we are--it's the weekend. Another 5 days of hard work put in during the week, so now it's time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the fruits of our labor, right? For some, this is the case--doing something you don't enjoy just to pay the bills for half of your waking adult life, looking forward to that 5PM clock-out on Friday evening. Granted, some of us have no choice but to engage in this kind of mentality and lifestyle for a few reasons:

1. The environment we are from or circumstances are lended itself to limited options and dreams;

2. We are starting from scratch at an entry-level position with the hopes of moving up the ladder to a higher position at some point (trading time for money);

2. We think we can't do something before we actually give it a try (stop before we start out of fear, uncertainty/doubt, or lack of confidence);

3. We've never found something we are truly passionate about, talented at, and aligned with our souls.

There is nothing wrong with any of these if they are well-intentioned and have an exit strategy at some point. Why an exit strategy? Well, for one, most things in life are temporary--'This too shall pass.' We can't go on forever doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. That's the definition of insanity. Second, it's important to grow and become a better version of ourselves every day. The only way to do that is to go out of our comfort zones attempting something you never have before or challenging yourself at a task that may be higher than your current intellect. If we aren't doing either of these, then we are essentially 'busy dying' rather than 'busy living'. I'd rather be the latter than the former.

So, we challenge you this weekend to spend some time in reflection, taking an honest look at yourself and how you're living your life, and see if there's anything you can do to make your situation better. If there is, great! This is the first step towards making a real change in your life. If nothing reveals itself right away, this is OK. It's not the easiest to be 100% self-aware and conscious of every decision we make or thought we have. Intentionality is a muscle we have to work on in order to become stronger and more direct with our decision making. Keep at it. Don't give up.

Let us become someone who doesn't just work for the weekend, but work through the weekend, because we've finally found something that lights our fire like nothing else before. Enjoy!
