March 14th, 3/14, Pi Day! Treat yourself to a literal piece of pie while doing some math equations. It's the best of both worlds. But, we digress.
Taken straight from Wikipedia, "The number Pi π is a mathematical constant. It is defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and it also has various equivalent definitions. It appears in many formulas in all areas of mathematics and physics and the earliest known use of the Greek letter π to represent the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter was by Welsh mathematician William Jones in 1706. It is approximately equal to 3.14159. It has been represented by the Greek letter "π" since the mid-18th century, and is spelled out as "pi". It is also referred to as Archimedes' constant."
Even though it is considered an irrational number and cannot be made into a fraction, it is still a constant. How neat is that? It's like saying even though everyone is uniquely different and cannot be put into a box or divided up into several parts since a human being is one full entity, we are all still human beings that have feelings, emotions, ideas, thoughts, relationships, and experiences, among other things. Or, it's like saying all musicians are a little off center (irrational, if you will), most certainly cannot be contained/put in a box because they live outside of the box by the very nature of being a musician, yet we can rely on them to continue to be this way for the duration of their lives. That is, if they are willing to let themselves be enveloped by music in making it a daily habit, routine, and lifestyle.
So, as we started, Happy Pi Day to all you mathemeticians and musicians, for their is math in music and music in math.
P.S.
Be sure to change the clocks to one hour ahead today as it's Spring Forward day as well. The official start of Spring is less than a week away. Hurrah!
