Coffee. Most of the first world needs it to get through the day every day. In fact, we'd venture to say that most of the world drinks it on a daily basis to function. Is this a good thing? Probably not. Why? Because we're depending on a stimulant, a drug (this is what coffee is after all), to make it through the day. When we become dependent on something like this, we begin to experience worry, stress, and anxiety when we don't have it. And, we may experience physical withdrawal symptoms at the same time (jitters, shaking). To us, it is a recipe for disaster. Now, don't get us wrong--good coffee does taste amazing. But, like all good things, and like most things in life, we have to keep it in its place and use it in moderation. We are not knocking coffee overall either as there is a lot of research available on the benefits of coffee.
So, what can we do instead of drink coffee to wake us up, either in the morning, or in the middle of the day? Get a better night's sleep to begin with. Go for a walk to wake your body and mind up (again if it it's in the middle of the day). Take a cold shower.
And, if you're not interested in any of these, that's OK. Just some different things to consider.
Enjoy your cup of joe today for National Coffee Day.
